Sustainably and ethically made, our one-of-a-kind pieces feature hand collected sea glass from the picturesque coasts of Cornwall, Durham, Yorkshire, and the Outer Hebrides as well as hand selected, ethically sourced precious stones.

This is the "Juno" named after my beautiful God Daughter and the Roman Goddess of Marriage,Women and the Queen of the Gods.

It is a triple set ring that features a beautiful teardrop shaped piece of sea glass flanked by either diamonds or sapphires, it's your choice. This one features the most beautiful sage green sapphires which work so well with the sea glass.

As we know fine jewellery is becoming increasingly expensive, which is why every piece of my jewellery collection can now be purchased at an entry price of Sterling Silver, as well as 18ct Gold for those that want that investment piece.

When I started using gold in my jewellery in 2018 the price for (24ct) gold was around £29.65 per gram... hindsight is the only true sight and man alive, do I wish I'd bought a whole bunch of it then! Today, the price of gold is a whopping £94.30 per gram...that's insane!! That is SO insane it's pricing many people out of the Gold jewellery market.

When I started doing the recreation/repurpose work it wasn't the cheapest option to use Grandma's old ring, as the work involved in cleaning, melting down and reforming the gold meant the labour charge was often more expensive than the cost to buy new formed gold wire, not anymore!

There are no two ways about it, gold jewellery is expensive, however repurposing gold that is sitting redundant in a drawer is a great way to save money.

Traditional Goldsmithing is a dying skill and you can see from my reel that I still do most jobs the "old fashioned way" with lots of manual working and patience.

Like many businesses, Goldsmiths are finding things tough. We are working in a shrinking market and competing with the tidal wave of s**te from TEMU and Shein, falsely "verified" as Sterling Silver (it's not and it will make your skin itch!) .... BUT, this is where independent Goldsmiths can shine... We have the skill and time to turn your broken, unwanted or inherited gold into a lovely new piece. We have the capacity to adjust and adapt our materials and design to suit your budget, this is something you are not going to get from the mass produced, high street jewellers.

If you've been listening to the news recently you'll know gold is at a nearly all time high 😱...it's incredibly expensive and I've had to adjust my prices accordingly. I have held off for 2 years but since I haven't been able to pay myself for a few months now 😬🫣 it's definitely time to put my prices up and adapt again to the changing markets.

How am I handling the gold price hike? Well, I have all rings available in silver as an entry level price, increasing to silver with gold accents right the way up to 18ct gold if you still want that investment piece.

Photography laws say you shouldn't photograph in direct sunlight but Sea glass says differently...just look at that beautiful texture and colour, I could dive in!

The texture on the surface of genuine sea glass is impossible to fake. One of my biggest gripes is fake sea glass being sold as real sea glass. It always lacks the subtle pits and undulations of decades in the sea, nothing can replicate half a century being slowly tumbled by the tides. Sea glass, the way I like to use it, is perfectly imperfect. I like to keep that texture, celebrate it! To me it's symbolic of our own existence. Our own knocks and tumbles, not to be hidden and concealed but to celebrate them, as marks of our own beautiful journey through life. This is why I love sea glass.

The first introduction to the new 2025 edition of "The Rock pool Collection" is the"Selkie" ring.

This is a handmade piece, each tendril and vein meticulously sculptured by hand and in the middle is a hand carved piece of sea glass, set in gold.

The inspiration for this piece has come from hours spent foraging seaweed, specifically bladderwrack that we have in abundance on our coastline.

As always each piece is specifically handmade to order, so you can tailor it individually to your special person, keeping it as unique as they are.

Enjoying the last warmth of summer before we are back to the cool temperatures are Autumn 🍁, a toe tingling 7° promised tonight...that's the winter duvet back on then 😂.

It has been an absolutely glorious Summer though, aside from the Moor fire, which was pretty horrific.

September is racing pretty quickly and I am super conscious of getting everything ready for the festive gifting season (I am NOT saying that word yet!!!). Lots and lots the do and lots and lots to make, so it seemed like the perfect time to waste a day on a boat 😂🤦... Another of my most proficient talents is that of procrastination 😂

Look closely and you will see it.

One of the key stages in creating a bespoke Sea glass ring is getting the right size, in fact I would go as far to say as it's THE most important step. Sea glass isn't the easiest to work with when it comes to rings because it will not tolerate any heat next to it. This is problematic when rings are concerned because resizing is tricky without risking damaging (discolouring) the beautiful sea glass. If a resize is required then it can mean replacing the sea glass too, so getting the right fit is critical.

The beauty of buying handmade is I can fit to any size, half sizes or quarter sizes it's not a problem.

Have you spotted it yet?

The video shows a client trying on two different sizes, can you tell which is the best fit?

You want your ring to slide easily onto your finger but you want a small amount of resistance over the knuckle when removing it. The first one is just right the second is too loose. You should NEVER have to push the ring on, this could get stuck and you could find yourself with a slowly swelling finger making it even harder to remove the ring 😬...in which case it will need cutting off, (the ring not the finger 😂) something I've actually had to do once before at a market and now I don't go anywhere without my ring cutter...just in case 😬🤦

This was commissioned by a loving Mother for her beautiful daughter and it was a pleasure to create, especially as the band holds a secret, personal message. I know that this piece is going to be treasured forever.

As the kids have gone back to school this week, it's been a stark reminder that time gallops ahead regardless of how much you don't want it to and all too soon they are adults and you are thinking of ways to gift your own precious pieces of heirloom jewellery and gemstones. It's such a lovely way to pass on precious items and add another layer of sentiment.

Opals aren't the easiest gemstone to work with, as they are so brittle, so it's important to take them to an experienced and trained Goldsmith.

This commission had so much connection and story behind it. Firstly, I had the pleasure of making the engagement ring for my customers daughter. It's always so lovely to reconnect with past customers. Secondly, the original Opal ring was made by an ex-customer of mine in Edinburgh. When this order came in from the Isles of Scilly my heart absolutely leapt! Ever since I was obsessed with Michael Morpurgo's book "why the whales came", I have loved the Isles of Scilly. I remember spending hours tracing my fingers across the map on the front pages of the book, imagining my finger was a tiny life sized version of me, running through the beaches, in the hills, behind the Bird Man's cottage...an idyllic childhood by the sea. I grew up in the peak district and although very beautiful, the sea was a long way away and I loved it. Then began our summer holidays to Cornwall. We would travel down, four of us kids along the back seat of a Nissan Bluebird (it was the late 80s-90s!) bickering like mad...I don't know how my parents stood it as I would also get terribly car sick, especially on those Cornish roads...which always secured me a window seat 😂.

Our first trip over to the Isles was with my Granddad, who was a navigator in the RAF during WW2 but he was deeply fascinated by the Sea battles. He was so interested in the Isles history, the battle of the Atlantic and it's use in the war. We were all given a history lesson along the Cannon lined walls on St. Mary's whilst I marvelled at the brilliant turquoise sea and beautifully contrasted red flowers of the red campion.

So, when this order came through and I saw I was sending it to the Isle of Bryher this is why my heart leapt! It was like sending a piece of me to a place with so much imagination and meaning on so many levels.

Thrilled the lovely couple love it and I wish them all the best! And, thank you for getting me to remember and reconnect with that part of my childhood.

Where would I be without my blessed "Bob the bluetac blob"?. Far easier to use than a burr tip dipped in wax (what a faff on!), this trusty piece of bluetac has helped me set hundreds of tiny stones, so I guess it's totally right that Bob should be in focus...even though he's totally messed up my "wip" photo for the website 😅....

So, it's only taken me over a year to get round to sharing this. It was a commissioned birthday present for my Sister in law and it features the most gorgeous green Emerald! Emeralds are one of those stones that price really does show in the stone. A good Emerald has clarity and colour, a good crisp green colour. Cheaper cuts are more opaque and less deep green. This one was an absolute stunner, combined with two flanking diamonds.

I don't just work with Sea glass 🤓 all my stones are ethically sourced from UK suppliers and all complete with certificates, so you know what you want is what you get!

Well, let's just take a moment to breathe in the beauty of these ABSOLUTELY STUNNING 18ct yellow gold, custom made wedding rings.

The gorgeous couple who commissioned these rings are nature enthusiasts and have done amazing work rewilding and managing a plot of ancient woodland and river in the beautiful Devon countryside. Re-establishing the river that runs through their land back to a healthy place. They are, by their own admission, a couple of hippies (I love that!) and have decided after decades together that now is the right time to solidify their incredible relationship. So, the strong, solid and natural symbol of the English Oak has multiple meanings here.

These rings are a one off. They were made in silver first from sheet metal and then cast in 18ct Gold. It was an absolute joy!!!! Honestly, I love the way my job connects me with the most inspiring and amazing people and whenever I shuffle down the Devon, I'll certainly be stopping by for a forest walk and cuppa!

I had the absolute Joy of working with the beautiful Clare and her little Slothy Sidekick, Wilberry. We had a brief to recreate a ring that sat within her existing Sea Stone blue 💙 ring. To say Clare hadn't done ANY silversmithing before she did an absolute AMAZING job!!!

From the original sketch right through to creation. Scribing, Sawing (tricky!), shaping, forming, soldering and even a little tube setting, it's amazing what you can achieve in a one to one in just 3.5 hours!!! Well done Clare!!! 💕🙌

There isn't another word for that stunning turquoise blue 💙. Plucked out of my most special and rare sea glass finds, this wonderfully super piece has found its destiny and keeper.

The brief for this piece was simply an image of the dress and the setting this piece will showcase. It needed a splash of gold and a subtle hint of woodland, this is a one of a kind piece and I can't wait to see it being worn.

As a self employed creative, work streams can be difficult to coordinate. It ebbs and flows with no rhyme or reason and that can be hard to manage.

I've been self employed for ten years now and I've learnt how important it is for me to have a deadline. Without one, things tend to rumble on and on and, well, just don't get done. It seems I need the pressure of a deadline to create and I'm at my most efficient when I'm most busy, only that mode is also not sustainable and I can hit burnout. I often joke that I percolate for 3 days, then do 3 days of work in six hours and sit staring at the wall the following day 😂. Does anyone else relate?

I've just completed the last of my large commissions, so now I have the time and space to finish my private collection, that's taken a back seat the past few months and I may even pick up a paint brush.... Perhaps...

It's not uncommon for wedding bands to have to be cut off and often they aren't suitable for resizing, this was exactly the case with this project.

We had a few rings to play with, the original wedding bands/engagement ring and a few pieces collected when living in Dubai. We also had some beautiful dark ink blue sapphires and tiny 1mm diamonds we also chose to use, because dark ink blue sapphires are expensive!

My customer chose a design that was classic and timeless, a lovely flush set number in a solid ring band, to utilise as much of that gold as possible.

After, the design stage and drawing, it was over to me to delicately remove the stones (without cracking or losing any!) and create the finished item.

Totally new ring, with all the lovely sentiments of the old pieces, plus a little left over for another project!

I love these projects, every single one has a story which I love.

Something a little different for the squares from me, this is my last make of my Diploma in Fine Jewellery, it's gone very quickly and I've really enjoyed it.

Doing the Diploma has meant I've had to focus time on professional development rather than getting absorbed in the business as usual. This has been great for my confidence and my creative flow.

As a self taught jeweller I had always wondered whether I was doing things "right" or in the "proper way". Even though I've been silversmithing for nearly 10 years, I've learnt my skill by making, making and making again and crucially not being afraid to make mistakes.

This course has shown me that I'm actually doing a pretty good job. My engineering brain has served me well and so have my stash of customised tools 🤣.

I love learning new skills and I'll certainly keep learning and growing, there's so much more I want to do.

It's my pleasure to share another glow up of some inherited jewellery, this time two different pieces, a gorgeous ring and a pair of stunning earrings.

Inherited jewellery is always such a lovely gift but when they don't fit or they aren't your style, it can feel disheartening to store them away in a drawer. Especially when they hold so much meaning. This transformation took the precious and sentimental rings from my customers Mother. We worked together to create a design for both the ring (choosing her own gorgeous amber sea glass from my collection) and statement earrings. That both suited her style, incorporated the precious stones from the jewellery and her budget.

Now she has two pieces to treasure, that have all the feels of the old jewellery in new.

I just absolutely love doing these projects, it's always very emotional when customers collect their pieces and that's really touching.

Making jewellery by HAND not CAD has it's ups and downs, although I like to believe that even the downs are ups as it's all part of the handmade process!

It's easy to watch reels on Instagram and think the process of making beautiful things is easy, I'm as guilty as anyone for over simplifying and polishing the making process. The truth is making jewellery is highly skilled and dirty work, working studios are messy places in the middle of the day and things don't always go right the first time, as this reel demonstrates. I'll share a little moment today in the studio. A customer came in to discuss a commission and I had noticed the St.Christopher on her necklace when they came in the door as I was looking at potential necklace lengths. After about 15 minutes of discussing options I happened to look up again and noticed the St. Christopher had completely come off the necklace and was casually sitting my clients chest. The culprit was an unsoldered jump ring!

I obviously repaired the pendant there and then and told her, God was looking out for you there because if that had happened 5 minutes later you would have lost that St. Christopher 🙏🙏🙏 Isn't He wonderful 💗💫

The gold chain was her father's and the diamond ring her mother's engagement ring. I was able to create a piece of keepsake jewellery that connected both her parents into one gorgeous piece. Most of you don't know this but in October last year I seriously thought about shutting down my creative business and going back into my old employment space, back in the office. It was a tumultuous time, I was struggling with fighting the likes of TEMU over copyright infringements, plus I'd had over £1500 of product stolen from a shop I rent a space in, it had become very hard. I asked God to send me a sign, to show me the direction I need to focus on. Within a few weeks, I had been offered a studio space in a new premises and I started finding creativity in repurposing inherited jewellery. Since I offered my dilemma up to God he's been blessing me with opportunity. I'm forever thankful for being able to do what I truly love and to all of you that continue to support me 💕❤️💕

ABOUT SEA STONE JEWELLERY

Hello! I'm Joanna and I am the artist and goldsmith behind Sea Stone Jewellery.

I started Sea Stone Jewellery in 2017, when my family moved to the beautiful town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea, on the North Yorkshire Coast. Before retraining as a Goldsmith I worked as both a Management consultant and as a Reflexologist. You may think these two careers are vastly different but the essence of each, for me, was being completely client centric, something I have passionately kept as a core value within Sea Stone Jewellery. In a world that seems to have forgotten what customer service looks like, I am proud to run a business where my customers are seen, their needs listened to and they have full visibility over the creation process. It is truly an honour and a privilege to create wearable art and heirloom pieces of jewellery for people to treasure.

I work exclusively in fine precious metals and each item is slowly and intentionally made by hand, using traditional metalsmithing techniques. I incorporate lots of texture, sea glass and only ethically sourced gemstones. Design is important to my practice and each piece I create has an element of sculpture and movement, inspired by the dramatic English Coast.

Sustainability features heavily in my ethics, my pieces focus on recycling and reusing existing products to create something new. All the metals and stones I use are recycled and sourced from reputable UK suppliers or recycled from secondhand jewellery. I am passionate about wearing jewellery you have inherited and a lot of my private work involves recreating and reengineering "new" out of old. Appointments for this can be made via the website.

The most rewarding part of what i do is to undertake bespoke jewellery commissions, remodeling new jewellery from old pieces. Please get in touch to discuss any individual requirements and check out my "Portfolio" page where you can see a selection of previously created custom pieces.

WORKSHOPS *new in 2025

Since, 2025 I have started to run workshops, helping others create beautiful pieces of silver jewellery or their own sandcast wedding rings. The jewellery making workshops are a great gift for the person who enjoys an experience and even better to do together! I offer a bridal party workshop where you can enjoy making a gorgeous piece of silver jewellery to remember the special day...or to get the bridesmaids to make their own gift! I run my Workshops in my studio in Saltburn by the Sea, North Yorkshire.
